BUTTER LA 2026 delivers record breaking weekend

BUTTER Fine Art Fair, the no-commission art fair celebrating Black visual artists, concluded a powerful inaugural weekend in Los Angeles, selling more than half the show—58 pieces over four days—with 100% of artwork sales going directly to the artist. Held in Inglewood’s Hollywood Park, the Black fine art fair brought together more than 4,000 collectors, cultural leaders, artists, students, and community members for a dynamic celebration of contemporary art and culture.

Strong Sales Reflect Continued Demand for Black Artists
Reinforcing BUTTER’s growing influence as a marketplace and cultural force, participating artists represented a range of disciplines including painting, mixed media, photography, and sculpture. Sixty percent of artists sold works during the weekend, with 5 artists selling out all of their works.

“The response we received during LA Art Week reinforces what we’ve always known—Black artists are not niche; they are central to the contemporary art market,” said BUTTER LA curatorial lead Nakeyta Moore. “The sales from the first-ever LA show reflect both collector confidence and the power of creating a space where culture and commerce can coexist without compromise.”

Equitable for the artists and the attendees.

“There's music, there's DJs, the artists will be there; this is an artist-led fair, so it's a great way for a collector to meet the people they're supporting and exchange stories,” BUTTER LA curatorial lead and founder of LA-based ARTLOUDLA Nakeyta Moore told me in a phone interview. “This is going to be a beautiful way if collectors want to know the person they’re supporting and talk about their work with them.”

What are the forces that tether us—to each other, to history, to systems both visible and hidden? The Things That Bind Us explores the intricate threads that shape identity, relationships, and our movement through communal spaces. Binding can symbolize care, tradition, survival, and belonging—woven into language, religion, commerce, and culture. Yet, it can also confine, reinforcing power structures, systemic oppression, and generational cycles beyond our control….

LEARN WHAT WENT BEHIND THE PRODUCTION OF THOMAS J. PRICE’S BEYOND MEASURE EXHIBITION, FABRICATED BY UAP.

Thomas J Price's multidisciplinary practice amplifies the visibility of marginalised bodies and challenges our preconceived attitudes towards power and value. 'Beyond Measure' marks the artist's first comprehensive solo exhibition in the United States, following his acclaimed public presentation 'Witness' (2022) with The Studio Museum in Harlem, NY, featuring a public art titled "The Distance Within', which was produced at our Rock Tavern foundry.

The exhibition expands on Price's intrinsic understanding of materiality and scale to respond to traditional art canons and social structures. Whether encountered in a gallery or public spaces, Price's works draw the viewer's attention to the nuances of conditioned behaviours and psychological frameworks, interrogating how we collectively occupy space.
